The standards booklet was developed by the WMEA board during the 2000-2002 biennium, with WMEA Administration Curriculum Officer Dave Weatherred leading this process.  The final product was distributed to all delegates at the 2002 WMEA Conference.

The booklet contains sections dealing with:

• a rationale for music education

• outcomes for the music program

• curricular offerings

• schedule and staffing

• materials, equipment and facilities

• concerts, festivals and travel

• music and athletics

• music and the community

• music and copyright law
