WMEA arranges entertainment for Jean Enersen Retirement Party

WMEA was contacted on the morning of June 17 by Betsy Robertson, Director of Community Relations for KING-TV. Long-time, news anchor Jean Enersen was retiring as an anchor and Robertson wanted live music to be performed at her celebration. WMEA was asked to find a small ensemble that would able to arrive at KING-TV studios that afternoon. After searching its network for a band that was ready, willing and able to perform with a few hours notice, WMEA was able to secure part of the Husky Marching Band. Members of the WMEA staff and the Husky Marching Band arrived just minutes before the celebration. As soon as Enersen entered the news room, the band was signaled to come in playing the Husky marching song. The performance of the band surprised and delighted the staff and Executive Director of KING-TV. They were so impressed that they asked the band to stay and play three more pieces. The University of Washington students were equally honored to be included in a bit of local TV news history.
