BAND DIRECTOR, 1.0 FTE

BURLINGTON-EDISON HIGH SCHOOL
The Burlington-Edison School District is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Band Director position at its AA High School. The successful candidate will teach in areas of instrumental music at the high school and 8th grade band program. The district is located in Skagit County, Washington, which approximately 70 miles north of Seattle on the I-5 corridor. The student enrollment of the grades 9-12 school is approximately 1200 students.

PROFESSIONAL & PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES:

· Valid Washington State teaching certificate with appropriate endorsement in the required area. Must meet highly qualified status.

· Strong skills, background and recent training in instructional methods and strategies of assignments; ability to instruct the following: Concert Band, Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Music Appreciation and 8th Grade Band.

· Strong skills background and desire to facilitate and lead various band activities, teams and programs; those include marching band, concerts, performances, competitions, etc.

· Demonstrated knowledge of current trends in the field of instrumental music and have the ability to plan and implement instructional activities to meet varied student needs.

· Thorough understanding of high school education and a sincere desire and ability to work with all students in order for them to have positive experiences and successes.

· Knowledge of or amenable to learn, use and integrate the district’s technology strategies, systems and curriculum software programs as well as demonstrate knowledge of and integrate the District’s Technology Competencies.

· Desired personal characteristics include flexibility, scholarship, commitment to accomplishment, and enthusiasm for profession.

· Priority given to applicants meeting other qualifications who are fluent in Spanish.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Work effectively and cooperatively with community, parents, staff, and students.

· Present and develop the school's music program (instrumental groups, concert and marching bands) to the community in a positive manner.

· Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment for learning during class, group activities/practices and band events.

· Develop in each student an awareness of the role of music and leadership in economic, social and career opportunities.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

· 180 day basic contract with fourteen additional days and supplemental contracts for any extracurricular assignments.

· Salary in accordance with the current negotiated salary schedule

· Medical, dental and other insurance benefits are available from district-approved plans.

· This position is part of the local bargaining association.

· Pursuant to RCW 28A.58.580, job-sharing applications will be considered.
